Disney Princess: Beyond The Tiara Explores Origins And Legacy Of The Culture Icons
If you’re a Disney fan like me, and you love the Disney Princesses, there’s a brand new book by Emily Zemler called “Disney Princess: Beyond The Tiara” that explores the origins of the princesses, their stories, character designs, the voice actors behind the princess, and the influence Disney Princess has on today’s culture.
Growing up, I watched these princesses was my childhood. Specifically Ariel from The Little Mermaid. I had the movie (on VHS!), posters, dolls, bed sheets, basically any that had Ariel on it, I begged my parents for it. Today, I still feel that excitement whenever I see the Princesses at the parks or hear the familiar tune of a Disney Princess song. This book made me appreciate the princesses even more - the hard work that went into creating their story, the voice behind the animation, and more.
The book features princesses such as:
Moana
Merida
Rapunzel
Tiana
Mulan
Pocahontas
Jasmine
Belle
Ariel
Aurora
Cinderella
Snow White
This book was sent to me for review purposes and when I first started it, I had no idea it would take such a deep dive into each princess in the first chapter. And what I really liked about this book is that it doesn’t just talk about the origin of each princess but about the influence Disney Princesses have on today’s pop culture. It talks about the reimagining of classic animated stories into live-action movies and broadway shows. And we all know that Disney Princesses are everywhere - literally everywhere… you walk into any store and there are toys, books, posters, apparel, Funko pops, video games, mobile games, and the list goes on.
I also feel like we can’t talk about Disney Princess without talking about the influence they have on fashion - from wedding gowns to jewelry, cosplay to Disneybound to the Met Gala where stars like Zendaya and Claire Danes who doned Cinderella-inspired gowns.
Beyond The Tiara has full-color pages filled with gorgeous illustrations and each chapter is organized by theme like inspirations, collectibles, origins, theme parks. It includes interviews with Disney Legends like Jodi Benson, Lea Salonga, and composer Alan Menken.
So if you’re a fan of Disney Princesses and want to know more about them, or if you have a friend who loves Disney Princesses, this is a book that belongs on your shelf.
