Tips and Tricks For Visiting Galaxy’s Edge
As mentioned earlier, Wendy and Emma visited Galaxy’s Edge. Here’s some of their tips to make the most of your time.
Prioritize what is most important to you
There’s a lot to see at the Black Spire Outpost, so it’ important to discuss with your friends what is the most important thing you want to do or experience?
Is it visiting Oga’s Cantina? Build your own lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop? Both of these experiences are fun but can take up a huge amount of time. Now that Galaxy’s Edge is open to the public, our advice is to check the official Disneyland website or download the Disneyland App to make a reservation for the Cantina or Savi’s Workshop. Once you’ve acquired your reservation, do account for the time for the experience, which can take anywhere up to 45 minutes or more, depending on the crowd.
During Wendy’s visit, she had a 4-hour window due to the reservation system set in place. After waiting in line to get inside the Cantina (this includes lining up to make a reservation to get inside the Cantina and actually being inside the Cantina) took about an hour. Then she was left with 3 hours to explore the rest of the land. Ultimately, she chose to not visit Savi’s Workshop on this trip because she only wanted the Ahsoka Tano lightsabers, which can be purchased at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities (more on this later).
Emma’s experience was slightly different because she attended a media day, and there wasn’t a huge queue to get inside the Cantina or Savi’s workshop, but it was still clear that both of these experience can be time consuming.
As for Smuggler’s Run, based on what I’ve seen on social media the waiting has been insane - going up as long as 180 minutes! If you can snag a FastPass, do it! If not, try your best to check the wait time via the Disneyland App.
The Food of Batuu
There are tons of food and beverage to try at Galaxy’s Edge. The best part is that all the foods are designed to look very “otherworldly”. Here are a couple of things we’ve tried and loved:
Blue Milk / Green Milk (milk stand)
Smoked Kaduu Ribs, served with a blueberry corn muffin and cabbage slaw (Docking Bay 7)
Oi-Oi Puff (Docking Bay 7)
Batuu-Bon (Docking Bay 7)
Oga’s Obsession (Oga’s Cantina)
”Thermal Detonator” sodas
Lightsabers, Creatures, Holocrons, oh my!
There are merchandise aplenty throughout Galaxy’s Edge. You can visit Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities for legacy lightsabers, holocrons, kyber crystals and more. Then there’s the Black Spire Outpost Market for creatures, apparel, toys, and et cetera. Here are some of our favorites from our visit:
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities:
Legacy lightsabers are sold here! This means any of the legends from the world of Star Wars, including Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, Kylo Ren, Asajj Ventress, and more. You can also pick up individual kyber crystals here, that you can place inside your custom built lightsaber (available only at Savi’s Workshop). Please note that kyber crystals cannot be placed inside the legacy lightsabers. You can also picked up Jedi or Sith Holocron here, and you can place a kyber crystal inside to activate different character quotes.
Looking for movie authentic jewelry? You can purchase jewelry as seen on Princess Leia, Rose Tico, Jyn Erso, and Queen Amidala from this location as well.
Black Spire Outpost Market:
This is where you can adopt creatures such as Porgs, Lothcats, and more from the Creature Stall, shop movie accurate apparel from the Black Spire Outfitter, and purchase the most adorable rag dolls. Definitely make some time in your schedule to walk around in the marketplace.
Droid Depot:
Build your own droid! You can choose between an R2 unit or a BB unit, and from there you can pick the colors of each part of the droid, assemble it together, add a personality chip, and carry it around in an adorable backpack (designed in collaboration with Loungefly). Did you know that the droids can interact with the land?
Play Disney App, should you download this?
100% yes! Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is designed to be very immersive to give you that "in-world” feel. In fact, when we attended, we didn’t even feel like we were at Disneyland. When you download the Play Disney App and activate it while you’re in Galaxy’s Edge, your app becomes a “data pad” that you can use to hack electric panels, translate arabesh, scan crates, acquire credits via jobs, and more!
This is something I look forward to doing when I return to Galaxy’s Edge because it is so much fun! This app not only allows you to interact with the land and it’s residents, it really help connect you to the world of Star Wars.
