The 6th Annual Her Universe Fashion Show
One of my favorite events at San Diego Comic Con is the Her Universe Fashion Show. I first attended the Her Universe Fahion Show in 2015, where Ashley Eckstein wore not one but three geek couture gowns, designed by Andrew MacClain (Audience Winner from 2014). I was blown away by the geekdom inspired fashion on the runway, and how many people attended the show. Fast forward 6 years later, the Her Universe Fashion Show is still going strong and bigger than ever.
Each year, Ashley is dressed to the nine in a geek fashion couture gown, designed by Andrew MacClain. This is something I love seeing every show. This year, the highly anticipated dress is a transformational dress, inspired by She-Ra. In the clip below, you can see the Ashley on the runway, in a red dress. As she steps out of the fog, she is in a a re-imagined version of She-Ra’swhite dress, complete with tiara and bracers. She later changed into a Batman dress, a purple jumpsuit inspired by the Haunted Mansion, and a gorgeous one shoulder dress featuring a unique design from “On Our Sleeves” foundation, the embowering movement to transform children’s mental health.
The show starts off with the latest collection by Hot Topic and Her Universe, featuring apparel from The Dress Shop, She-Ra The Princess of Power, Harry Potter, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Star Wars.
Then it was the designers turn. This year’s theme is “The Power Of Fashion”, and each design showcase what that means to the contestants. Take a look at the photos below at some of the designs:
Designer: Liz Todd | Duck Couture (Wooo-Ooo) - Duck Tales
Designer: Adria Renee
Destination: Isla Nublar - Jurassic Park
The Winners
Adria Renee (Judge’s winner) for her Destination: Isla Nublar dress and Sarah Hambly (Audience winner) for her Bodak Green Loki inspired look.
As always, I was blown away by the Her Universe Fashion Show. It’s fantastic to see all the designer’s sketches come to life on the runway. If you’re ever in San Diego during Comic Con, I encourage you to attend the show.
