Her Universe Fashion Show Teases Jaw-Dropping Gown
As the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con approaches, more news of exclusive merchandise, Hall H announcements, and special guests surface. Today, in a press release by Her Universe formally announces the 5th Her Universe Fashion Show. This will mark the 5th anniversary milestone of the fashion show. Present by Her Universe, Hot Topic, and Loungefly in partnership with Boxlunch, Cartoon Networks, Singer, and Zenni, this sounds like it's gearing up to be the biggest show yet.
Designer Andrew MacLaine (winner of the 2013 fashion show) will debut a "very special jaw-dropping gown", worn by founder Ashley Eckstein. Each year, Eckstein wears a stunning gown (or gowns) designed by MacLaine, and last year she wore a transformational Cinderella-inspired dress that wowed the audience. MacLaine has a flair for transformational dresses, as we saw back in his winning piece in 2013. While I don't have any details about this year's dress, I'm sure it will be spectacular.
Twenty-four aspiring designers will showcase their original designs in hopes to become one of the three winners - Judges' choice, Audience's choice, and for the first time, a SINGER Sewing Company winner chosen for superb sewing and construction. The winners will have the opportunity to design a full collection with Her Universe and Loungefly for Hot Topic.
This year will also debut a Junior Designer Showcase in partnership with Cartoon Networks. Four winners will be chosen amongst aspiring designers between ages 6 - 17 and they will be presented with the opportunity to design an apparel piece inspired by The Powerpuff Girls with Her Universe for retailer Boxlunch.
We'll also get Behind-the-Scenes coverage this year, thanks to sponsor Zenni Eyewear. Katie Linendoll (tech expert, geek fashion influencer) will be the special correspondent for Behind-the-Scenes content "Eyes on the Runway".
At the judges' table this year are Cindy Levitt, Senior Vice President of Licensing for Hot Topic, Todd Keller, Merchandising Manager for Loungefly, Joanna Fogt-Sohn, Senior Creative Director for Licensing and Merchandising at Cartoon Network, Olivia Mears, SINGER® Sewing Ambassador, who creates wearable art using unconventional materials and is known for her “food fashion,” Jane Francisco, Editor-In-Chief of Good Housekeeping and 2017 Her Universe Fashion Show winners Rose Ivy, Grace Duval, and Lindsay Orndorff.
I'm beyond excited for this year's fashion show, as each year it has gotten bigger and more extravagant. You never know what original design you may see strutting down the runway. I love these aspiring designers have this opportunity to show their passion and design to the world. This year's fashion show takes place on Thursday, July 19th at 6 pm, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego. Door open to the public at 5:15 pm.
