First Time At Dapper Day
Dapper Day at Disneyland has become quite a popular event amongst Disney fanatics. First held in 2011, it's described as a fashion outing to Disney parks to celebrate "stepping out in style". Though we see a lot of vintage fashion on Dapper Day, all fashion style from vintage to sophisticated to contemporary chic is encouraged.
I've always been aware of Dapper Day, but too timid to try for myself. After seeing fabulous outfits on Instagram or Pinterest, I just never thought I'd be able to pull it off. Finally, after some encouragement from friends, I decided to give it a whirl. My inspiration was Mulan, one of my favorite Disney movies and a tale I've known since I was little.
I went with a plum/burgundy pencil skirt because I wanted to embody the silhouette of Mulan. I found an amazing Nasty Gal top from the thrift store (score!), and completed the look with a blue belt and red peep-toe pumps.
My fantastic husband accompanied me as Captain Shang. For his look, we just went with a simple gray slacks, black vest, and a sage green shirt. We added a red sash for a nod at Shang's red cape.
Before we headed into the park, we went to The Dress Shop in Downtown Disney for a meet-up with Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano, Her Universe). She has just released new dresses and skirts in collaboration with artist Ashley Taylor. The collection includes two dresses inspired by the Haunted Mansion, skirts inspired by Mad Tea Party tea cups, and a door mouse cardigan.
Now let's take a look at all the dazzling fashion from Dapper Day. It'll never cease to amazing me how creative one can get with their ensemble. There was everything from Star Wars to Pixar to Haunted Mansion. I even found Mushu!
For my first Dapper Day, it was an incredible experience. From being too scared to try it to actually putting an outfit together, I'm glad I did it. There's something so special about being a part of Dapper Day and walking amongst timeless fashion. Every one is smiling, friendly and having a good time. I'm already counting down the days to the next Dapper Day.
