A Night With Professor Marston and the Wonder Women
We've all seen the success of WB's Wonder Woman, and the praises Patty Jenkins received for a great movie. While Wonder Woman is a movie that has a special place in my heart, I want to turn your attention to another film about Wonder Woman. This is about the origin and creation of the iconic superhero that we have come to love. "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women" is written and directed by Angela Robinson, and stars Rebecca Hall, Bella Heathcote, and Luke Evans. The movie tells the bizarre yet true story of how Dr. William Moulton Marston created Wonder Woman and the women who inspired him.
Dr. Marston (played by Luke Evans), who invented the modern lie detector test was teaching at Harvard and Radcliffe colleges when he hired Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote) to assist with their research. As Olive worked with Dr. Marston and his wife Elizabeth Marston (Rebecca Hall), the three grew close, eventually fell in love and begin a polyamorous relationship.
What I loved about the movie was how director Angela Robinson told the story. She gave each character enough time to develop on their own while bringing them together as their relationship grew. During the exploration of their polyamorous relationship, it never felt raunchy or uncomfortable. In fact, it was empowering to see the three of them explore this new kind of love with confidence, because love was the most important to them. The chemistry between the actors made each scene extremely believable and I felt all of their struggles, pain, and joy.
Throughout the movie, there were many nods to Wonder Woman costume such as the silver bangles Olive wore, the tiara, and the corset with an eagle embroider. At a DVD/Blu-ray release event held at What Katie Did, a vintage lingerie store in Burbank, CA, costume designer Donna Maloney recounted her experience working on the film and bringing the inspiration of Wonder Woman into the wardrobe. Angela Robinson was also in attendance and offered her own experience in making the movie. Take a look at this video for highlights from the event.

Everyone invited had the opportunity for an intimate discussion and Q&A with Angela Robinson and Donna Maloney and get fitted for her personal corset inspired by the movie. I chose the Merry Widow (pictured right).
Professor Marston and the Wonder Women is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital. This is a must watch and an origin story you don't want to miss out on.
