Monthly Favorites: February 2020
This month seemed to fly by! As we gear up for the Spring, let’s take a look at Geek & Glitter’s February favorites. I guess I had more free time than expected in February because I watched a lot of Netflix this month. Kicking off the list with 2 Netflix shows.
The Circle
This Netflix show had everyone talking. I'm not really into reality type shows so I was late jumping on the train. The premise of the show sort of a "Big Brother" meets "Catfish". The contestants live in isolation in his or her apartment, cut off from the rest of the world. Their only way of communication is through "The Circle", the show's own social media platform. The contestants can choose to be whoever they want to be on this platform - themselves, or take on a completely different persona. The endgame? The most popular player wins the grand prize of $100,000. At first, I thought the show was going to be really scripted and fake - and the players would do or say whatever they need to in order to win. In the end, the remaining players formed a strong friendship, especially Joey and Shubbie. This show was a lot of fun to watch and the best part is that there were any yelling matches since they weren't able to interact with each other in person.
Love Is Blind
Another Netflix show I binged is Love Is Blind. This one falls a bit more on the "Bachelor" side, as in it had more drama. The premise: groups of men and women join the experiment to find out if you can fall in love with someone without ever seeing their faces. After going on several "dates" (aka talking through a wall inside a pod), a proposal, meeting in real life, and finally a walk down the aisle. The 3-week series showcases 5 couples as they go through the experiment in hopes to find true love. I don't usually watch shows like these but somehow I was hooked and watched through the whole series plus the reunion episode.
Birds of Prey
This movie was so much fun to experience. Centered on a post-break-up Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), she soon realizes she has a target on her back. She makes a deal with Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) to deliver Cassandra who stole a valuable item from him. However, she bonds with Cass and decides to team up with Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya to take down Black Mask.
Lazy Genius Podcast
I came across this podcast when I was researching bullet journaling. The Lazy Genius podcast is hosted by Kendra Itachi and each episode is focused on how to be a genius about things that matter, and lazy about the things that don't (yes, that's her tagline. Genius!). The episodes are about 20 minutes or so and touch on topics such as hosting a girls' night, if hiring a housecleaner is for you, eating habits, cooking tips, body image issues, and more! Kendra's voice is soothing and gives off such a warm and relatable personality. Since the episodes are on the shorter side, it's the perfect podcast to put on as you get ready in the morning or in the car for a short drive.
85º Bakery
This Taiwanese bakery is an international chain selling coffee, milk tea, pastries, dessert, and cakes. A new location just opened near my apartment and I've been making a daily stop in the morning before heading into work. The pastries are always fluffy and tasty, and their hot beverages are somehow always at the perfect temperature to drink right away. Favorite drink (at the moment) is the sea salt caramel coffee... delicious.
I hope my list of February favorites has inspired you to check out a new show, podcast, or eatery. Until next time!
