Hyperspace Pins Debuts With The Child Pin

Hyperspace Pins Debuts With The Child Pin

Who knew a spark of an idea while standing in a line for collectibles at San Diego Comic-Con could turn into a reality? For artist and co-founder of Hyperspace Pins, Matt Kennedy, this is exactly what happened. About two years ago, when Kennedy headed off to SDCC with fellow Star Wars fans (whom he was meeting for the first time) he didn’t think an idea that came up in conversation would later become Hyperspace Pins.

"Wouldn't it be cool to come back to [San Diego Comic-Con] as professionals?" Kennedy reminisced about the night he and his friends waited in line for collectibles. "Wouldn't it be crazy if we figured out something we could do together?" said his friend Chris. Fast forward to October 2020, Kennedy and his co-owner Chris Garcia have just released their debut pin featuring our favorite Asset from the hit Star Wars series, "The Mandalorian". We're talking about The Child AKA Baby Yoda, of course.

Hyperspace Pins is a nerdy, artist-driven, hard enamel pin company. From the creative minds of Matt Kennedy and Chris Garcia, they combined their love for Star Wars and collecting into a business. While their focus is on hard enamel pins, they have plans to venture into limited prints, vinyl stickers, high-quality shirts, and jewelry! As an artist and illustrator himself, Kennedy wants to include more artists for future releases.

Kennedy designed the debut pin himself as well as the cardback and vinyl stickers. Talking about how it feels to see everything go from concept to the physical product being delivered to consumers, he says, "Not only are you deciding what the product is and you're seeing it directly happen, but you're also directly talking to people that are going to experience what you've made." Hyperspace Pins also hosted giveaways leading up to the launch, with prizes such as Black Series action figures and Funko Pops.

As a fan and an avid collector of all things geeky, Kennedy paid attention to the smallest details- from pre-punching holes in the cardback instead of pushing the pin through it, to how the items will be placed in the package to give fans a great unboxing experience.

Everyone involved in the launch has been from the Star Wars community, "from my mentors to those helping us promote to my co-owner", which shows how a community can come together and achieve something great. Brand ambassadors includes Star Wars blogger Jenmarie of “Anakin And His Angel”,

Hyperspace Pins will also venture into other fandoms in the future.

Even as the launch is happening, Kennedy is still in disbelief, "If you told me three years ago I'd be launching a company, I would have said 'you're crazy.’" he laughs. "That was never on my list of goals, that was never something I imagined myself doing.".

There are great things coming from Hyperspace Pins and this is just the beginning. I’m happy to say I love the debut pin. It’s high quality and looks fantastic. I also love attention to detail in everything from the packaging to the art on the cardback. You can check out my unboxing experience here.
